3 Pieces of Furniture You Need in Your Nursery

Getting ready for your new baby is an exciting phase of your life, and putting together the nursery is a big part of that preparation. You pick colors or themes, paint, and decorate the room. But what about the furniture? Do you know the 3 most essential pieces of furniture for a nursery? Do you know what to look for in these pieces of furniture? Here are a few tips to get you started, and you can find all of these furniture pieces at almost any Atlanta furniture store.
Crib
The crib is probably the most essential part of the nursery. It is where your little bundle of joy will lay their head down to sleep every day for the first year or more of their life. Your crib should not only be beautiful, but safe and functional as well.
Look for a crib that has high, sturdy sides. If you want a crib that allows you to lower one side, make sure that it has a good latch on it so that the side doesn’t drop by accident. You will also want to make sure that the slats on the crib sides are wide enough that your baby’s little hands won’t get stuck.
Some cribs come with a pad included, while others will require you to buy the pad separately. If you buy the pad separately, make sure that it is a good fit for the crib you buy. You don’t want your baby’s fingers getting squished between the pad and the crib sides.
Changing Table
When it comes to babies, one thing is inevitable: dirty diapers. A changing table makes the process of changing dirty diapers a little bit easier. Look for one that has a high lip around the top edge; this way, when you reach for a clean diaper, your baby can’t roll off of the tabletop. You may also want to buy a pad to put on top of the changing table if yours doesn’t already come with one.
You also want your changing table to have plenty of drawers and shelves for storage. You want to be able to keep clean diapers, baby wipes, baby powder, and any ointments you need in the changing table. That way, everything is within easy reach while you’re dealing with the dirty diapers.
Rocking Chair
One final piece of furniture that every nursery needs is a rocking chair. You’ll be grateful for it during those midnight feedings! The most important feature of a rocking chair is comfort. Make sure that you like the way the chair feels and the way it moves when you rock it. Don’t be afraid to test out several rocking chairs before buying one.
If you’re not sure where to start, glider rocking chairs are a great option, they move smoothly and quietly without the risk of tipping over that comes with some traditional rockers. You can also purchase gliding footrests that will allow you to put up your feet and still comfortably rock your baby back to sleep.
Make sure that the cushions are soft and comfortable, but that the chair still offers you plenty of support in your back. You’ll probably spend more time in that rocking chair than you realize, so good back support is important.
Of course, there are many other pieces of nursery room furniture that you can find at Atlanta furniture stores. You can add toy chests, dressers, bookshelves, and many other items; it all depends on what you want and what fits your needs best. However, if you include the 3 pieces of furniture listed above in your nursery, you’re off to a great start!
